A deadly blizzard struck the O Circuit in Torres del Paine National Park on 17 November, killing five trekkers and leaving dozens stranded in whiteout conditions. The O Circuit is a demanding 130-140 km loop that attracts thousands of hikers each year, with John Garner Pass among its most exposed sections. The victims include the Mexican couple Cristina Calvillo Tovar and Julian Garcia Pimentel, the German couple Nadine Lichey and Andreas von Pein, and British trekker Victoria Bond. Survivors report that weather worsened quickly and that warnings were unclear as conditions deteriorated, making descent nearly impossible in the high, open terrain near the pass.
